In our FW 19/20 Visionary trend Trigger, the duality of push and pull creates a catalyst for contemporary design. Normcore dressing is reexamined and reconstructed to compose a unique visual dialogue that blends cerebral construction with a confident streetwise edge. Color becomes assertive and is used to great effect across all classifications and surfaces. Artists like John Baldessari and photographer David Brandon Geeting emphasize this undercurrent of graphic impact and inspire the use of saturated hues and unexpected juxtapositions. The industrial design follows suit as seen with the rising success of furniture designer Dozie Kanu. His ability to blend disparate objects to create a new narrative illustrates how effective it can be when art and design come together.

DERIVED FROM MACRO-TREND:
Selfishly aware looks at the cause and reaction of a growing portion of our lives being lived on social media.
Teens now spend up to nine hours a day on social platforms, while 30% of all time spent online is now allocated to social media interaction.
Our dependency on ‘likes’ and followers is turning into a form of social currency.
The “Instagrammable design movement” is where products and spaces are created with instant photographic appeal to be captured and shared on social media.
Technology companies like Google, Snapchat, and Apple are considering “glanceability” form and function as a means to limit our distractions.
Unconventional materials and juxtaposed surfaces turn the unexpected into the new normin Trigger. Relief knits and bonded foam play with human inclinations to touch. While cotton velvet and double face fabrics break free from the basics in impactful hues. Push and pull ideals surround us as soft brick, and mixed marble surfaces create tension.

In Trigger, we look to inspire with unexpected pattern choice, pattern placement and contradictions, which enable us to rethink shock tactics. Juxtapositions with texture allow creative revamps using painted elements of thoughtful splatters and fragmented markings against composed terra-like grounds to demonstrate the forward-thinking ideals. Quick to defy convention and eager to buck the ‘norm’, we look at these design innovations that blur expected with curiosity in the unexpected.
